Max Blomgren

Artist Max Blomgren's body of work is constructed from his "feelings, thoughts and experiences". His series "Memory,Cyanotypes" is a testament to this. In 2010, Blomgren learned he "had a benign tumor on my cortical spine. It was critical to have it removed immediately, and only a week after I discovered it I was in the hospital for my first surgery. The end result was two separate surgeries to have the tumor removed." Blomgren used his art to get through his surgery and recovery.

Blomgren found the cyanotype process to be "erratic, but the images that it can produce are astounding. There is an ability to layer and transform the negative unlike any other method I have seen in photography. The emulsion itself can take on photographic qualities without interacting with the negative. New spaces can be defined, and chance occurrence can make the image unique and impossible to reproduce. This is why I think that the cyanotype is a perfect representation of memory."

We are thrilled to have Blomgren as a featured artist on ArtCrasher. His artwork is stunning in its layering and simplicity. Blomgren's use of cyanotype allows viewers to better appreciate shapes, lines and forms that are often overlooked. To learn more about Blomgren, you can check out here website here.

Jérôme Royer

French artist Jérôme Royer lets his imagination run wild with water colors. Royer is a " self-taught artist who primarily uses watercolor to create portraits and other realistic pieces of art with abstract twists. He has experience with many creative methods including color pencils, acrylic, and watercolor painting." Royer's work is influenced by his work experience in architecture and design. He believes "art requires freedom in structure and personal expression."

We are excited to have Royer as a featured artist on ArtCrasher. The fine lines in his artwork make the features of his subjects look like a map. These lines create layers in his work, perhaps to reflect the layered personalities of his muses. Royer's drop paintings also deserve to be recognized. His drip paintings are a modern mix of blotch and splatter painting techniques.

To see more of Royer's work, you can find him on Facebook, Instagram and his website.

Paula Morales

The work of artist Paula Morales is a "reflection of my fascination with life, it is the result of my experiences and dreams." Originally from Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, Morales is currently based in San Francisco, California. As an artist, she is "utterly involved in image creation, I believe art is a revolutionary act of freedom, a device of dialogue and a path to communication." Morales' artistic journey is one which encourages her to expand her "imagination, to learn and experiment; to create and pursue dreams."

Morales is a featured artist on ArtCrasher. We love her mixed media work and collages. Her work makes the mind wander and allows viewers to see life from different vantage points.

Tana Lopez

Artist Tana Lopez has always chosen "adventure over a white picket fence". Her journey that would lead her to a "meditation of paint, words and camera...with love and light, with gratitude" began in Heidelberg, former West Germany. Growing up on a military base, Lopez has fond memories of her village that was "right smack in the middle of a collection of farmer fields." Lopez and her brother would enjoy life's simple pleasures. They would often wander beyond the military base on their bikes until arriving "at our favorite cherry tree and ate to our hearts' delight."

It was in this same village where Lopez met her "best friend Ely while serving in the military." They married in 1994 and traveled the world for the next 15 years. At some point along the journey I found myself overcome with a desire to take better photos of my children and my family and the need to do so cheaply. My photography skills began to blossom with a photography book that I checked out of the Fort Belvoir library, and quickly grew to an insatiable passion that I never escaped."

Lopez's work has been "exhibited at the National Jazz and Cultural Center in Baltimore, Maryland, published on more musician website's than I can count, and can be found on the JazzTimes website. I have photographed some of the biggest names in the industry as well as many incredibly talented local artists and have enjoyed {almost} every moment of it. My Live Jazz photos can be viewed here. My favorite work was the work I did in Ghana, West Africa and you can view that collection here. One of my photos from Ghana was even selected by the Director of Jazz Studies at Princeton University to grace the cover of his CD."

In 2014, Lopez decided to "start putting my camera down more often to put paint to brush to canvas and paper and whatever I can find." We are excited to have Lope as a featured artist on ArtCrasher. To learn more about Lopez and her artwork, you can check out her website, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Elisabeth Ajtay

The recipe for San Francisco artist Elisabeth Ajtay's artwork is "Facilitating chaos and allowing mistakes to happen". Her work "is a reflection [of] my [transition] from life in the east of Europe to the west of America."

Ajtay is a featured artist on ArtCrasher. Her "Mind Maps" caught our eye. Ajtay breaks down the chaos that intertwines with life; that builds life; that shapes life. Her "Mind Maps" illustrates how life can be a frantic dance whose movement has no method, technique or explanation.

Ajtay's own life's dance has taken her around the world. "Spending a childhood in Transylvania/Romania behind the iron curtain, Elisabeth Ajtay grew up in the democratic society of Western Germany, leaving two years for Hungary, back in the days, when the changes after the revolutions in Eastern Europe were still in progress." Ajtay later found herself in San Francisco to complete her a Master of Fine Arts.

"My early work, mainly dealing with Romania, takes a fragmentary approach. Documenting other places/spaces I visit is my way of keeping a diary/sketchbook about the world which informs my abstract, conceptual works. More recent imagery represents an attempt to deal with topics such as mobility, inner/outer communication, and especially the exhaustion of the individual in light of new technologies. I steadily approach, in new ways, human beings’ sensitivity to a dialogue with the broader world."

To check out more of Ajtay's work, you can visit her website.
